Chamomile (German) - Certified OG

German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita)
Certified Organic | Grown & Processed at Meeting House Farm, Scarborough, Maine

German Chamomile is a gentle and familiar garden ally, prized for its small daisy-like flowers and sweet, apple-scented aroma. Harvested at full bloom, the flowers are gathered carefully to preserve their delicate oils and vibrant character.

Our Chamomile is grown regeneratively at Meeting House Farm and dried immediately after harvest in our on-farm certified organic drying facility to preserve potency, color, and aromatic integrity. From there, it is processed into apothecary preparations with full traceability and care.

Available Forms

  • Dried Herb: Certified organic German Chamomile flowers, gently dried and ready for infusion, blending, or apothecary use.

  • Extract: Fresh or dried Chamomile flowers prepared as an alcohol extract in small batches using organic grain alcohol made in Maine and pure Maine spring water. 1:2 ratio.

  • Infused Oil: Organic jojoba oil infused with dried German Chamomile flowers for eight days at 80 °F to preserve the plant’s delicate constituents. The oil is double filtered after infusion but never pressed, maintaining clarity and integrity without compromising quality.

Our oils may naturally solidify at temperatures around 40 °F. Bring to room temperature before use. Infused oils are typically ready to ship 2 to 3 weeks after your order is placed.

A selection of 1 lb dried botanicals is considered a pre order. These may be ordered in advance and will ship directly from Meeting House Farm once grown, harvested, and dried. Orders are fulfilled in the order received. Pre orders are always filled before being listed in our online farmers market.

German Chamomile is typically harvested from July through September.

In the Apothecary
Preparations: infusion or extract of flowers, fresh or dried
Energetics: cooling, drying, neutral
Tastes: sweet, bitter
Herbal actions for educational reference only: carminative, mild nervine, tonic, aromatic, sedative

From Our Experience
Chamomile produces a distinctly bitter infusion, one traditionally associated with rest and digestive rhythms. The longer the flowers steep, the more pronounced the bitterness becomes.

When blending herbal tisanes, Chamomile often serves as an accent herb and pairs well with lemon balm, lavender, holy basil tulsi, and milky oats. For bitter forward blends, milky oats may soften the profile and are best reserved for gentler formulations.
